Translation API Privacy

Last updated: 28 July 2026 · Version 1.2

This page explains how the LegoTech Translation API handles text when you ask one of our apps to translate. It applies to every LegoTech app that offers translation, and is separate from each app's own privacy policy, which covers audio upload and transcription.

1. What the Translation API is

The LegoTech Translation API is a routing layer we operate. When you request a translation, your app sends the text to us, and we forward it to whichever translation service is best suited to that language pair and content — then return the result to your app.

We route rather than commit to a single vendor because translation quality varies enormously by language. A service that is excellent for Spanish may be poor for Hebrew or Thai. Routing lets us send each request to the engine that handles it best, and to change engines when a better one appears — without shipping a new version of the app.

2. Which services may process your text

Depending on the languages involved and the type of content, text may be processed by any of:

ServiceProviderTheir privacy policy
Google Translate API Google LLC Google Cloud Privacy Notice
Microsoft Translator (Bing) Microsoft Corporation Microsoft Privacy Statement
OpenAI models OpenAI, L.L.C. OpenAI Privacy Policy
Claude models Anthropic PBC Anthropic Privacy Policy
Gemini models Google LLC Google Privacy Policy

Links in this table lead to third-party websites that we do not control. Each provider is responsible for the accuracy of its own policy.

This list may change as we add or retire engines. Because this page is shared by all our apps and is not tied to an app release, it is always current — check back here for the services in use at any given time.

3. What is sent, and what is not

SentNot sent
The text to be translated (for subtitles, the transcript lines), the source language, and the target language. Audio or video files. Your name, email, account ID, device identifiers, IP-based identity, or any other data that would identify you to the translation provider.

Translation requests reach providers through our servers, not from your device directly, so providers do not receive your IP address or device information.

Please note that the text itself may contain personal information — if you transcribe a recording in which someone states their name, address or phone number, that text is part of what gets translated. Only send content you are entitled to process.

4. Training and retention

We use these services under business or API terms that exclude your content from being used to train or improve their models. This is a meaningful difference from the consumer versions of the same products, where such use may be permitted. The relevant commitments are set out by each provider:

We do not store your translation text after the translated result is returned to your app. Providers may hold requests briefly for abuse monitoring and operational reasons under their own retention policies — typically up to 30 days — after which they are deleted.

5. Where processing happens

These providers operate globally, so text may be processed on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Where required, transfers rely on the providers' Standard Contractual Clauses or equivalent safeguards.

6. Your choices

Translation is never automatic. It runs only when you ask for it, and only after you have agreed to this policy — you will be asked again whenever it changes materially. If you do not agree, transcription and every other feature continue to work; only translation is unavailable.
